Megan Nielsen Flint Shorts

When I saw the Megan Nielsen Flint Shorts from Lisa from soso.sewing I was amazed by the look and the style. She already made two versions since the beginning of this year so when she posted her second version on her Instagram feed I knew I had to try this pattern as well.

No sooner said than done!

I bought, printed and taped the pattern and was ready to go.

I had to go from a size 16 in the waist to a size 20 in the hips but that's a normal adjustment with high waisted pants for me. It may have worked in a straight size 16 but the pants are designed to be wide legged and I wanted to go with the design.

As fabric I still had some fabric left overs from my Ginger Jeans but not enough for the whole pants. So I combined it with the fabric in this black and white diamond design I made into a skirt back in 2017 I think. The waistband and the pockets are made out of the black and white fabric while the legs are made out of jeans.

I love the way the fabrics go together to create a great eye-catcher.

The buttons I chose where from my stash as well so I really didn't buy anything new for this project which I'm kind of proud of. These buttons combined with a pocket on one side are the only closure of these pants so there's no zipper to install or elastic to add.

I think this is one of the interesting details of these pants but I should have read the instructions more carefully.

I have to confess that I sometimes just look at the pattern pieces and try to figure out the sewing process by myself without following every step of the instructions.

However, in this case not following the instructions led to me closing both pockets completely. Therefore, I would not be able to put the pants on. As I hadn't attached the waistband when realizing my mistake it was not difficult to solve the problem but I could've had it easier.

And even tho I opened the side of one pocket again as instructed I'm still not sure if I sewed it correctly. In my version the front of this opened pocket is not attached to the waistband since I need some room to move when putting the pants on over the hips.

Nevertheless I'm totally happy with those pants. I like the cut very much, it really fits in my wardrobe and the fit is really comfortable. And I have definetly learned something from this project!
