Wow, it has really been a while since I wrote a post on here. The last was about my experiences during #MeMadeMay2020 and I'm already working with the resolutions I made. But first I still wanted to show you a kind of special outfit I also sewed back in May.
The Jumpsuit Sevilla - a light stretch jumpsuit I sewed in the beginning of May and decided to wear it on my birthday (it had to be in pants week).
The Jumpsuit is another pattern by Annika from Schnittliebe and I'm definetly in love!
It's made for stretch fabric like jersey but can also be made out of woven fabric like a viscose or tencel. The main focus when choosing the fabric should be on the drape and weight of the fabric - a flowy lightweight fabric would be the best choice. I chose a Tencel stretch Jersey in maroon from MeetMilk which I ordered from Juni Design. The fabric is super soft and I fell for the colour.
The details of the Jumpsuit are wide legged pants, side pockets, gatherings and an elastic in the waist as well as an overlapping in the front pieces which generates a wrap optic in the top.
The original pattern is made with spaghetti straps but I don't really like those kind of straps so I decided to draft myself different ones. To do so I just pinned the top of my jumpsuit on my dress form and drafted some fabric around the shoulder parts.
The idea was to create some short sleeves which - like short bell sleeves - should at least cover my shoulders. But to create this look I would also have had to adjust the back and the front pieces of the jumpsuit (maybe next time). Therefore I ended up with some wider straps but I still love the outcome.
I sewed the Jumpsuit in a size 46 and lenghthened the pattern about 10 cm.
Annika's patterns includes some instructions how to adjust them properly so it was really easy. After that I followed along Annika's instructions how to sew the top and the pants (of course beside the steps regarding the sleeves) - okay I also sewed along the angeled edges of the top to secure the folded edges even more. And I also wasn't able to fixate the neckline with a blind stitch so if you look closely at the finished piece you can see securing stitches.
But these imperfections are also part of the process, I think, and despite or because of that I am deeply in love with my Jumpsuit. It's an outfit in which I feel comfortable and which is chic at the same time. Even tho I mostly wear it at home right now I can definetly imagine myself at work or a party in this Jumpsuit.
I'm looking forward to wear this #secretpyjama to different occasions in the future.
