I did it – I made my own jeans in the first week of 2020!
And I wanted that to be my first articel on this new blog.
It has been one of my projects from my #makenine2020 and I’m super proud of myself for tackeling it this early in the year.
These are the Ginger Jeans from Closet Case Patterns and I followed the pattern for over a year, I think. I adored every pair of jeans made from this pattern I saw here on Instagram and I just love how well it seems to suit every body type.
As the pattern is in English and I’m not a native speaker I was a bit afraid I wouldn’t understand everything well enough to make such a big project like jeans. But the instructions are written in a really simple way and always supported by drawings of each step. I think it is one of the only patterns I really read and followed nearly step by step. Of course, not everything went well on the first try and I am sure I could work on a more beautiful inside, but the outside is really close to perfect in my view.
I had to make some adjustments as I wanted the jeans to have a tight fit. So, I graded between a size 14 in the waist to a size 18 in the hips, straightened the crotch seam a bit and tightened the legs underneath the knee. I don’t know if I did the adjustments right but also is there really a right way when fitting clothes to your own body? I am so happy with the result and I’m so glad I took my time to make these adjustments. I also copied them to my pattern immediately as I’m sure this won’t be my last pair of Jeans!
The fabric is some stretchy denim I bought in the fabric store located across from my flat and used a cotton I bought back in Gdansk for the front pockets and waistband lining. I hope the fabric will last a while as I didn’t spend to much money on it (I was afraid it wouldn’t turn out wearable). The cotton fabric has a traditionally Polish design and I think it was a great decision even if I might be the only one who will really see it. But it makes me happy to know even if the jeans are simple and dark on the outside there is a spark of bright colour and design inside just for me.
I really love wearing those jeans and you will for sure see them in future articles as I will pair them with as many tops as possible!
