Bow Blouse

Another project I planned in my #sewingplans2020 was another bow blouse and when I saw this fabric as a dress on Veroniques instagram account @eveyseamittakes I knew it was the one I needed for my plans!

The pattern is a version of the blouse no. 1 out of the book Dressmaking - The Complete Step-by-Step Guide by Alison Smith.

I sewed it the first time out of a satin polka dot fabric in 2019. As the fabric has a high polyester content, this one is not very comfortable to wear. So I wanted a more natural fabric in this new project. The striped fabric is a viscose twill from Mind the Maker I ordered from Juni Design.

The pattern has good descriptions regarding the sleeve and bow alterations, but still I would say that it is not directly suitable for beginners.

I also decided I wanted to have a button placket and a division at the back to change the stripe direction. To sew this I had to adjust the pattern by myself. For the button placket I simply didn't cut the front piece on folt and add about 5 cm in the middle. 5 cm is a bit to little for a double foulded button placket therefore it's only once folded and smaller than panned, but I'm still learning.

For the back adjustment I cut the pattern piece in half right under the arm section on the pattern. The bottom part was placed on the fabric with the stripes in a vertical direction and the upper part was placed with the stripes in horizontal direction. And don't forget to add seam allowance where you divided the pattern!

These are just two simple adjustments but they change the look of the blouse in a way I really appreciate! Maybe next time I will also add a small chest pocket, who knows.
